The Pilot stool was produced with a special machine that was developed and patented as a pilot unit for manufacturing new types of sandwich components for the machine and vehicle industries from expanded polypropylene.
The initial idea was to jointly develop a furniture project with the Hammerschmied company and at the same time to also develop the firm’s 3-D foam unit. The choice of a stool was made for reasons of size and the cost investment required for a form. The design features contrasts, without losing its subtlety: lightness meets rustic, and artificial, natural. Formally, it is based on traditional solid-wood furniture in the Alpine region. The aim was also to develop a project whereby both sides would gain new experience. After attaining a successful result, Patrick Rampelotto and Fritz Pernkopf presented the prototypes at the Milan Furniture Fair (Salone Internazionale del Mobile). The stool is now being manufactured in series production under the Belgian label Quinze & Milan using a different process.
